Rusk County Jail Roster

The Rusk County, Texas Jail Inmate Roster is a public resource that allows anyone to check who is currently in custody at the county jail. RuskCourt.us helps quickly find publicly available information about current and recently released inmates. Additionally, data can be obtained through the official website of the Rusk County Sheriff's Office, by phone, or by visiting the jail in person. The roster allows you to check a person's custody status, review the charges filed, and find out the booking date. It is maintained by the Rusk County Sheriff's Office under the leadership of Sheriff Johnwayne Valdez; the Inmate Listings are published on the county's website and updated periodically.

Find Rusk Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment a person is officially admitted to the jail. This occurs after an arrest: officers record the detainee's personal information, photograph them, take fingerprints, and register the case in the system.

Each record contains:

  • A unique booking number
  • Date and time of admission
  • List of charges filed
  • Name of the arresting agency
  • Basic identification data (name, date of birth, gender)

Access to these records can be obtained in several ways. The first is to view the Inmate Listings section on the Sheriff's website. The second is to submit an official request for records. The Sheriff's Office page has a Records Request form that can be downloaded, filled out, and sent. Public records requests in Texas are governed by the Texas Public Information Act, and the institution is required to respond within ten business days.

For criminal cases that have already been transferred to court, contact the District Clerk. Electronic filing of documents in criminal and civil cases is mandatory.

Search the Rusk Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

In practice, most people search for an inmate by last name. Here's how to do it effectively.

Search by Last Name

  1. Open the inmate list on the Sheriff's Office website or on RuskCourt.us.
  2. If the page displays a full list without a search field, press Ctrl+F (Windows) or Cmd+F (Mac) and enter the last name in Latin script.
  3. Use the exact spelling. If the last name contains a hyphen or apostrophe, try the version without them.
  4. When there are too many results (common last name), add the first name for clarification.

Search by Booking Number

If you know the booking number, enter it in the appropriate field or use the browser search function. The booking number is the most accurate identifier, eliminating confusion between people with the same last name.

If the Search Yields No Results

  • Check the spelling of the name.
  • The person may have already been released — the register only shows those in custody at the time of the update.
  • The detainee may have been transferred to another facility. Try the TDCJ search for those who have entered the state system.
  • Call the jail at 903-655-3000 to verify the information directly.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Rusk

The Rusk County Jail Inmate Roster is updated periodically but not in real-time. There may be a delay of several hours to a day between the actual booking and the appearance of the record in the online list. This depends on staff workload and the time of day the arrest occurred.

Main limitations to be aware of:

  • Publication delay. A recently arrested person may not yet appear in the list, even if they are already in jail.
  • Disappearance of records after release. When an inmate is released on bail, by court order, or after serving their term, their name disappears from the list. The register is not an archive — it only shows the current composition of detainees.
  • Data entry errors. Sometimes a name is recorded incorrectly during booking. If you are sure the person was detained but do not see them in the list, contact the jail directly.
  • Juvenile and confidential cases. Records of persons under 17 years of age are not published.

To obtain historical data on past bookings, submit a written request to the Sheriff's Office using the Records Request form on the Sheriff's website. State-level criminal history records are maintained by the Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Records Division (DPS).
